Bison are one of the animals I recall capturing my imagination at a young age, though my exposure was limited to photos, TV shows, and toys. I remember seeing bison during a family vacation to Yellowstone, then some time later seeing one up close (in an enclosure) and being struck by how massive and majestic these animals truly are.
About five years ago, in Custer State Park, I watched the herd of bison rounded up into corrals (part of an annual event) and was able to see these animals, once again, up close. With camera in hand, I took photos to document these incredible animals as well as provide reference photos for paintings. The bison depicted here was from one of the hundreds of photos I took on a chilly October day in South Dakota.
