While working on this painting, the background color started to become darker than I had originally planned. This reminded me early morning or evening when the light changes. I also liked the idea of the solstice, the shortest and longest days of the year. So in that spirit, this painting became about this magical time of day or year, one where we can reflect on where we've been, or on the journey ahead.
Ever since I was young, I've held a special place in my heart for birds and animals, and believe that we have a connection with them. In our modern world, however, this connection often seems quite distant. It's my hope that these paintings remind us of that connection.
