Bison have long been one of my favorite animals. As a kid I was fascinated by them, and recall one of the first times I saw one being amazed at how large they really are. In this painting, I pay homage to this fascination of bison, and imbue it with a kind of magical quality, with decorative elements that blend in or emerge from the animal. In this particular work is viewed at a distance, the decorative elements blend in with the animal; its only as you approach the painting that that the details begin to magically appear. So symbolically, as you get closer, the sense of awe or wonder increases.
