DESCRIPTION:

One of the things I frequently talk about with people and in my artist statements is my fascination with contrasts. Here, for example, there is a contrast between the realistic rendering of the hippo and the line rendering, between natural and man made, between flat shapes and areas painted to depth or volume. While adding the mechanical elements this painting, the word automatic popped into my head, and then the title hippomatic came shortly after.
