A number of years ago I was fortunate to be able to go on an African safari. Its really amazing to see vast areas with so many animals like zebras, cape buffalo, and wildebeest as depicted here. I took thousands of photos while there. This particular wildebeest was one I photographed at Nogorongoro crater in Tanzania.
While there, I really enjoyed hearing the legend about how the wildebeest were created. Because they are such unusual looking animals, the legend is that the creator made them last, using leftover parts from all the other animals created. For some reason, I found myself drawn to these strange looking animals!
So in the end, to commemorate the legend of the wildebeest, I created a painting that was essentially used parts of other paintings and collage material, to capture the beauty and strangeness of these incredible animals.
